2023 Day 2 Recap

JUNIOR GIRLS

Second Round, Game 3
York House 27 – 41 Churchill
York House and Churchill matched up perfectly for an exciting and fast paced game. Both teams were fired up with tons of energy coming from their benches as they exchanged baskets. Although the Bulldogs maintained a lead throughout the game, the Tigers followed closely thanks to their shooters, #6 Zyra Siddoo and Player of the Game #4 Julia Molnar, who was a canon at the mid-range. Notable mention for Churchill’s success was Player of the Game #14 Crystal Charchuk, who single handedly broke York House’s full court press in the first half and anticipated many steals on defense for coast to coast layups.

Consolation Round, Game 5
Crofton 54 – 59 Notre Dame

Notre Dame came out the gates swinging with a full court press to start off Day 2 of the VGBA Langara Challenge. Player of the Game, #1 Taylor Cagampan was a key facilitator of the Juggler’s ball movement by leading the pace of the game and finding her teammates for scoring opportunities. The Jugglers maintained a 10pt lead up until the 4th quarter when the Falcons found their defensive rhythm through stops, steals, and scores in transition. Crofton closed the lead to 2pts in the last 2 minutes of the 4th quarter, with Player of the Game #3 Lauren Chow, using the team’s rebounding success to finish at the rim every time. In the end, Notre Dame kept the Falcons at bay with a nail-biting final score of 59-54.
