2024 Day 2 Recap

JUNIOR GIRLS

Second Round, Game 4
York House 32 – 34 Point Grey

The Point Grey Greyhounds overcame a 10-point deficit to secure victory against the York House Tigers in a thrilling double overtime clash. In the first half, both teams battled back and forth making it a close game. Despite the Tigers’ strong start in the second half with a relentless trapping full-court press, the Greyhounds fought back, dominating the paint and ultimately sealing the win in double overtime.

Second Round, Game 5
John Oliver 33 – 37 St. Patrick’s

This game was full of intensity and grit on both ends. St. Patrick’s Celtics showcased their ability to hit the 3-point shot consistently. While John Oliver Jokers drove to the net aggressively to draw fouls and finish strong. Ultimately, the Celtics sealed the last two minutes of the fourth quarter by hitting some impressive shots to win the game.

Second Round, Game 6
Crofton 47 – 36 Kitsilano

Crofton House took over with the lead of 28-17 in the first half against Kitsilano. Crofton House went into the game with a strong mentality and kept the lead the entire game. Kitsilano brought their energy back up and made it an 8 point difference at the end of third quarter. The Falcons played full court defense to put a stop to Kitsilano. As it was the most intense quarter of the game, #25 Sami Chong scored a layup to secure their lead with the final score of 47-36.

Second Round, Game 6
John Oliver 45 – 44 Kitsilano

John Oliver against Kitsilano was a neck to neck game. With John Oliver starting in the lead with the score of 14-9 at the end of first quarter, Kitsilano #43 Maïa Rosarion quickly tied the game with a layup going into halftime. From third to fourth quarter, John Oliver and Kitsilano were scoring back to to back, no chance for any team to secure the lead. Just in the last seconds #9 Ayessa Deleon scored a 3 pointer and took the win by 1 point for JO, with the final score of 45-44.

Second Round, Game 7
Notre Dame 62 – 61 Britannia

Notre Dames starts off strong with the lead and doesn’t give any open chances to Britannia. With Britannia’s tenacity, they were able to fight through it and score offensively in the first quarter ending it with 18-15 for Notre Dame.  From back to back layups, Notre Dame takes the lead with the score 31-26 at the end of second quarter. Britannia’s full court defense put pressure on Notre Dame and made it a 3 point difference game. Entering the fourth quarter, Britannia and Notre Dame’s intensity flew through the roof. In the last two minutes, Britannia’s #9 Taegan Lee shot a 3 pointer and brought the team in the lead with the score of 61-59. Notre Dame did not back down and continued to play hard. With seconds left to go, Notre Dame #3 Kaitlyn Chan shot a buzzer beater 3 to send her team to the finals!

Second Round, Game 8
Churchill 57 – 37 St. Patrick’s

Churchill starts off strong with a lead of 15-11 against St. Patrick’s in the first quarter. With St. Patrick’s #8 Ira Santos 3 pointers, St. Patrick’s made the game closer and more intense. In the second quarter, St. Patrick’s energy was strong but Churchill’s teamwork was able and to push through which helped them secure the lead. Going into third quarter, Churchill #10 Louise Dykstra was scoring back to back layups against St. Patrick’s.  With St. Patrick’s starting off the fourth quarter, they kept their rhythm going and scored against Churchill. Churchill maintained their lead and finished the game with the score of 57-37. Churchill advances to the final!
