2024 Day 1 Recap

JUNIOR GIRLS

First Round, Game 1
Kitsilano 43 – 28 York House

In the tournament opener, both teams came out ready to play. Kitsilano took an early lead hitting some nice shots into half time but York House never stopped battling. They came out in the second half ready to play till the very end. Both teams showed enormous hustle with constant rebounding and teamwork.

First Round, Game 2
John Oliver 24 – 33 Crofton

Crofton asserted themselves early with a strong press, generating numerous fast break opportunities through defensive stops. John Oliver showcased solid rebounding on the defensive end, showing their resilience. While the Falcons initially claimed an early lead, the Jokers staged a comeback with impressive shooting, resulting in a tied game at halftime. However, Crofton faced foul trouble, enabling the Jokers to stay in the game. Crofton’s determination and resilience paid off, ultimately securing the win.

First Round, Game 1
John Oliver 30 – 51 Notre Dame

The Notre Dame Jugglers consistently played great team basketball throughout the entire game. Even though they lead in scoring most of the game, the John Oliver Jokers never gave up and fought hard until the very end.

First Round, Game 2
Britannia 87 – 69 Kitsilano 

Kitsilano’s senior guard #43 Maïa Rosarion started off the game strong with a 7-0 run, which Britannia countered with a full court press, bringing them to a 25-13 lead at the end of first quarter. Starting off the second quarter, both teams put on full court pressure but Britannia secured their lead with their intensity. To end off the second quarter, a pass from Britannia #2 Bianca Padolina to #7 Jemilla Zongo established a 20 point lead with the score of 44-24. Kitsilano kept their energy up and with Maya Abraham throwing a baseball pass to #43 Maïa Rosarion who finished it off with a layup caught the audience’s eye. Britannia kept their momentum going and #21 Cheyenna Wilson ended the game with the lead of 87-69 against Kitsilano.

Churchill 70 – 35 York House

Ending the first round of games for the night was Churchill playing against York House. Churchill dominated right from the start and kept the lead till the end. A strong game by Churchill’s senior Louise Dykstra kept the game out of reach.

Tupper 39 – 61 St.Patrick’s

First round games started with St. Pat playing against Tupper. Both teams showed a lot of speed and traded baskets back and forth in the first quarter. St. Pats pulled away in the second quarter with steals and quick transition baskets. The lead stayed in St. Pat’s favor for the rest of the game.
