2018 – Day 1 Game Summaries

JUNIOR GIRLS

First Round, Game 1
Point Grey 48 – 26 John Oliver

The Point Grey Hounds started off strong with a 24 – 7 lead at the end of the first half. The Hounds had a good share of scoring with 7 players. The Jokers battled hard and applied full court pressure throughout the game, however the Hounds took the game 48 – 26.

Eric Hamber 39 – 30 King George

King George made a game of it.  Down by 15, they came back to 5 down before Hamber finished strong.

First Round, Game 3
St Patrick’s 32 – 30 Churchill

Churchill and St. Pats both came out strong but it was the St Pats’ second chance shots that gave them the early lead. In the last 2 minutes of the game Churchill trailed by 3 points and were able to force defensive stops but ultimately St. Pats’ composure won them the game.

First Round, Game 4
York House 24 – 44 Britannia

After the Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead, Britannia went on a 12 pt run with the help of early pressure to take an early lead.  Britannia’s post had several blocks inside and helped Britannia secure a 20-5 lead at the half.  The second half saw end to end action with Britannia finishing better. The Bruins will move on to the semi-final with a 44-24 win.

SENIOR GIRLS

First Round, Game 1
York House 60 – 58 John Oliver

J.O. came out flying and jumped on the Tigers including an opening 3pter. However, the Tigers stormed back. The lead changed hands several times throughout the course of the game. Neither team allowed the other any breathing room. What a battle. In the end York House hung on for the win but not without a dramatic finish with a J.O. 3pter being taken at the buzzer to win it…..’in and out’. So close…Incredible effort on both sides.

First Round, Game 2
Lord Byng 66 – 38 Notre Dame

Lord Byng lead this game from the opening tip-off. Senior point guard Skylar MacDonald controlled the tempo, but picked up her third foul before half. Notre Dame sped up the game with a full court press and cut the Grey Ghost’s lead to twelve at the half 34-22. Both teams played hard, but with three players scoring in double digits including 20 from MacDonald, the Grey Ghosts were too much in the second half. Rose Orenzo played well at both ends of the court for the Jugglers, earning her player of the game honours.

First Round, Game 3
Britannia 79 – 30 St Patrick’s

A slow start hurt the Celtics, as the Bruins exploded from the opening tip-off with a 20-8 run. The Bruins never looked back. A well balanced attack for the Bruins was anchored by Malena Mokhovikova and Surprise Munie. The Bruins are a must watch as this tournament continues over the next two days.

Killarney 65 – 35 Churchill

Killarney came out with a bang. Tantengco was a force to be reckoned with 19 pts at the half. The Bulldogs made a run in the 2nd half led by Amy Wong’s defence but it wasn’t enough to catch-up to Killarney.
