2017 – Day 3 Game Summaries

JUNIOR GIRLS

7th/8th, Game 9
John Oliver 34 – 29 York House

It was a very close game from the get-go with either teams leading by no more than 2 points in the first half.  JO gained the lead in the 3rd quarter, but York House closed the gap in the 4th where they put up a good battle, only for JO to pull away in the final few minutes.

5th/6th, Game 10
Notre Dame 44 – 42 St. Patrick’s  (OT)

Notre Dame started the game with a big lead, but St Pat’s closed it down to 4 points by the end of the 1st half.  The Jugglers played hard defense and an organized offense to reward themselves with a 13 point lead in the 3rd.  In an exciting 4th quarter, the Celtics tied up the game in the last 2 minutes and sink a 3 with less than a minute left.  Notre Dame retaliated with a long 3 of their own to cause the game to go into overtime.  The long and eventful game ends with Notre Dame winning by 2 points.

3rd/4th, Game 11
Churchill 52 – 48 Crofton House

It was an exciting and fast-paced game, as both teams battled hard for 3rd place. Crofton House pulled ahead by the half with their sharp shooting. However, Churchill burst out of the gates after halftime, taking the lead at the end of the 3rd, 40-39. It was an extremely exciting finish, as Crofton’s Nadeen Wu completed a 4-point play with 1 minute left, tying the game 48-48. Churchill kept battling, taking it hard to the hoop, making two baskets, and winning with a score of 52-48.

1st/2nd, Game 12
Killarney 40 – 36 Lord Byng

Both teams came out with great intensity and hustle. Byng showcased their team chemistry offensively and defensively, while Killarney’s Janel Tantengco and Katelyn Lafleur stepped up to the plate. In the last few minutes of the fourth quarter, Byng trailed by 2, but with a steal from Byng’s Maggie Mackay the game was tied 36-36. Ultimately, Killarney was able to pull through with the win made free throws from Janel ending the game with a score of 40- 36.

SENIOR GIRLS

7th/8th, Game 9
Notre Dame 54 – 41 Magee

Strong start for ND but Magee was able to cut the lead to 22-20 to end half. Hard fought game for both sides as Notre Dame wins the game 54 – 41.

York House 57 – 45 John Oliver

Both teams came out ready to play with Crofton leading by 5 to make it 21-17 to end the half. Crofton comes out strong the second half and finishes the game 57 – 45.

3rd/4th, Game 11
Lord Byng 49 – 37 Kitsilano

Both teams were here to play hard for the 3rd place title. From the start, Kitsilano displayed great intensity and pressure, and although Lord Byng had great ball movement and passing, their shots weren’t dropping. Kitsilano kept up their energy and created a 23-18 lead over Byng at half. However, Lord Byng gained momentum, finishing with a buzzer beater at the end of the 3rd period to take the lead 32-31. Both teams displayed a lot of heart and teamwork.

1st/2nd, Game 12
Britannia 67 – 51 Churchill

Both Churchill and Britannia came out ready to play, with scoring alternating back and forth between the two teams. Britannia’s outside shooting and Churchill’s fast breaks kept the game very close, leaving the score tied 32-32 at the half. But after the half, Britannia started to pull ahead, using their size to their advantage. Churchill kept it close, hitting key shots but ultimately Britannia’s quick transitions and strong offensive boards kept the game out of reach.
