2017 – Day 1 Game Summaries

JUNIOR GIRLS

First Round, Game 1
Killarney 53 – 23 St. Patrick’s

The game started evenly matched.  Killarney was able to get St Pat’s to turn over the ball and Killarney’s #10 Janel Tantengco took over the game with 31 points.

First Round, Game 2
Crofton House 49 – 30 John Oliver

Both teams demonstrated great hustle and intensity in their first game of the tournament. Crofton came out with a lot of defensive pressure and ended the half with a three-point buzzer beater, making it a 21-12 lead. John Oliver kept on fighting with great energy and fast breaks in the fourth quarter, narrowing the lead. With another buzzer beater to end the game, the Crofton House Cougars won by a score of 49-30.

First Round, Game 3
Churchill 53 – 29 York House

A hard fought battle and fast-pace game played by both teams. Churchill’s pressure helped them gain an early 26-9 lead at half. York House came out strong in the second half, but could not close the lead.

First Round, Game 4
Lord Byng 38 – 31 Notre Dame

After Byng started the game with a tough full court press and 10-0 lead over Notre Dame in the first quarter, ND battled back to within 4 points at the half. An exciting end to the game, Byng and ND traded hoops. With 2 minutes left, #2 Engy Meseha shot a three to change the momentum of the game. Byng secured the win 38-31.

SENIOR GIRLS

First Round, Game 1
Churchill 65 – 33 York House

Churchill had a strong start to end 33-22 at half against YHS. At second half, Churchill pulls away and finishes the game 65-33.

First Round, Game 2
Lord Byng 61 – 21 Magee

Byng defeated Magee by 40 points with a craftily executed offensive system and tough defence. During the 2nd half, Byng forced Magee the outside shot, however Magee could not respond. Both teams worked hard. Post player Yvona Acimovic showed a strong presence inside with several rebounds and 12 points to finish the game.

First Round, Game 3
Britannia 82 – 28 Notre Dame

Notre Dame got off to a quick start using their speed.  Britannia took over in the latter part of the first quarter taking advantage of their height, dominating the rest of the game.

First Round, Game 4
Kitsilano 46 – 36 John Oliver

It was a fast-paced game and both teams battled hard. Kitsilano gained a lead with their quick ball movement and high energy defense. John Oliver fired back with great outside shooting. Both teams executed a tough zone defense and it was a close, physical game throughout.
