2016 – Day 2 Game Summaries

JUNIOR GIRLS

Second Round, Game 5
York House 46 – 34 St. Patrick’s

York House led the entire way, withstood several rallies by St Pats, who were led by Megan Estrada’s 17 pts.

York House was led by Kyra Lee who scored 19. York House’s pressure trapping defense was the difference in the game.

Second Round, Game 6
Churchill 43 – 14 Crofton House

Churchill won as they please 43-14 over Crofton House. Even with the wide margin both teams showed great sportsmanship, and Crofton was able to stay positive through one way traffic.

Second Round, Game 7 Semifinal
Lord Byng 76 – 29 Charles Tupper

Lord Byng Juniors looked like they will be tough to beat in the final, winning in convincing style over Charles Tupper 76-29.

Skyler MacDonald led all scorers with 15. Charles Tupper was led by Ashley Chow with 9 pts.

Second Round, Game 8 Semifinal
Killarney 48 – 31 Notre Dame

Killarney shot out of the starting gate with a fantastic first quarter, creating turnovers with their defensive pressure.  Notre Dame trailed by as much as 16 points in the first half as the Jugglers could not match the Cougar’s speed and intensity.  Things seem to settle down for the Jugglers in the last 16 mins of the game as they got much needed help from their post players finishing easy baskets in the paint.

SENIOR GIRLS

Second Round, Game 5
Notre Dame 70 – 45 Crofton House

Both teams started off a bit slow, but the Notre Dame Jugglers pulled through the first quarter with a 12-point lead as a result of knocking down their treys and finishing easy lay-ups. The Crofton Falcons were resilient and chipped away at the score board bringing the deficit down to 8 by the end of the second quarter. Both teams came into the second half ready to play and compete, but the Notre Dame Jugglers’ strong execution kept the game out of reach.  Leading scorers were Trisha Francia (ND) with 37 pts and Laura Yang (CH) with 16.

Second Round, Game 6
St Patrick’s 62 – 42 John Oliver

Day 2 at the VGBA Langara Challenge saw the St. Patrick’s Celtics play against the John Oliver Jokers. Through their fast paced offence and an effective man to man full court press, the Celtics were able to finish the game with a win. John Oliver also fought hard with key 3 pointers in the 3rd quarter but fell short in the 4th. Cassandra Brinn of St. Patrick’s led all scorers with 20 points in the game.

Second Round, Game 7 Semifinal
Churchill 73 – 43 Kitsilano

Churchill Bulldogs set the pace with a fast, high intensity game. Both teams hassled hard. Churchill defence limited Kitsilano’s score, which lead the Bulldogs to the 2016 VBGA finals.  Top scorers were  Cecilia Bao with 18 points and Maya Soper with 20 points.

Second Round, Game 8 Semifinal
Britannia 66 – 27 York House

Britannia came out strong with their full court pressure allowing them to control the pace of the game, giving them a 27-6 lead after the first ten minutes. But York House was able to find their rhythm in the second quarter, hitting a lot of outside shots and finding the open man. Ultimately the Bruins’ rebounding and strong offensive play put them ahead for the rest of the game giving them a 66-27 win.  Top scorers in this game were Lucy Guan (Brit) with 13 points and Yasmin Mara (York) with 7.
